Special software, hardware, and experience beyond the reach of most home users (and even Dyno shops that don't specialize in BMWs) has always been required to tune the early ECUs of BMWs. Chip emulating and burning have been the de facto way of tuning BMWs and work great... but what if you don't live close to one of the only handful of facilities setup to tune your OEM ECU? What if you could eliminate the restrictive factory Air Flow meter (AFM) and convert to a HFM style Mass Airflow Sensor on your air hungry ///M engine... Then, you might have just what your car is looking for...

There is now a solution for your E30 M3, M5 or M6 and one that is affordable on any budget:
Both comprehensive and cost effective, Miller Performance offers the 4" MAF conversion for M cars including their WAR Chip.
This package, developed by Miller Performance, is a very creative and economical way to get more power and flexibility to these great classic BMW engines. Engines that are both durable, and capable, but have always been hindered by obsolete electronic hardware.

    From Miller Performance:

    Our new GenIII MAF is the best conversion ever for your classic M. With our custom massive 4" MAF sensor, performance potential is unlocked.
    Unlike our Non M Car MAF conversions, the Gen III/ M-car only comes in one size specifically tuned for the S14 or S38 engine. This low restriction MAF will accomodate for any amount of flow your engine will make with your future mods, like stroker engines or Turbos. Being 4"- the Air box requires minor modification. This is explained in detail in our great instruction manual included in the conversion.

    E30 M3
    The M3 MAF is a nice upgrade for the hungry 4 cylinder. It offers a PEAK gain of 16 true HP at the wheels and a PEAK gain of 12 ft lbs at the wheels! Even more exciting is the large torque gain under the peak number, an impressive 17 ft lbs at 3400 RPM! Just what the S14 needs.

    The M5 and M6 MAF’s had a few bugs during the Gen II life span. While most people didn’t have any issues, there were a select few that had drivability problems. We are always learning and Miller Performance and striving to better our products and service. With GEN III we have taken our knowledge and improved the drivability of our MAF conversions for all cars. The Gen III/ M-Car MAF is by far the best conversion out there for your M5 or M6. With our improved design, the GEN III/M offers unprecedented drivability as well as better performance than any of our previous MAF conversions.

    OPTIONAL E30 M3 Silicone Intake Elbow (Shown):
    If your are increasing the diameter of your air metering device, why not increae the entire intake track? For the E30 M3, the GEN III/M MAF kit can come with an optional 4” intake elbow. This increases the entire intake track to 4” opposed to the factory 3” tube allowing you to move more volume of air for additional top end power. Another benefit is less turbulence; the 4” silicone elbow is smooth compared to the factory 3” corrugated elbow. Highly recomended to make install onto your S14 as quick and clean as possible.

Over time Miller has found ways to be able to bring a better sensor to their kits for a better price than before...
Being a custom BMW Bosch Sensor (vs a GM or Ford type), the required voltage curve is very smooth which means better power delivery and better drivability. Also, millers custom BOSCH sensors have built in adapters to plug DIRECTLY into your BMW AFM receptacle so no wiring from the end user... Awesome!

The War Chip is basically a BMW Dyno shop in a box:
Included is your reprogrammable "WAR" (write-and-remap) ECU chip that has a USB interface cable- compatible with any Windows PC (or Mac running windows software), and your Tune Control Module so you can swap tunes, even while driving. This basically unlocks the factory ECU and allows you to edit the parameters, something like an aftermarket programable unit
The process is simple; download instructions and a base map from the Miller Performance "WAR Room" web site or included from VAC: load to your USB WAR chip and your ready to drive!
If needed, fine tune your BMW for all the goodies you have installed to or inside your engine. Along with the MAF conversion, power and engine response is immediately improved considerably as mentioned above.
