As of the 2010 season to fit within the rules of Spec E30 competition:
"9.3.1.2.2. All pistons, including aftermarket replacements, shall be factory replacement spec
and match factory dome, dish, valve relief depth, ring groove placement, weight and
wrist pin height; compression shall meet factory replacement specifications. The maximum allowable overbore is limited to the largest available factory replacement
piston, not to exceed .020 inch."
To match the dome of the OE M20 "i" head & OEM pistons (all at OEM Specs meaning full thickness head and block: 8.8:1 compression), and all other specified requirements; a specialized slug and ball machining process must be undertaken. This does increase the cost of these pistons over our typical M20 pistons.
