We have brought the ultra-high performance and reputation of Clutchmasters into the BMW market.
Built after extensive feedback from real world use by VAC and our friends at Bimmerworld, these Clutchmasters-spec kits start out from the precision components made by Sachs, good enough to be OEM for BMW.
However, the
kit is more than just a "beefed up" Sachs unit. The real magic is in the modification of
the pressure plate that clamps on the disc, and the friction materials used from Clutchmasters over 40 years of experience.
The CM unit is enhanced ductile iron casting that has been redesigned with a different fulcrum point to
Increase leverage for increased clamping pressure while keeping pedal pressure to a minimum. The straps and hardware attaching the casting are also strengthened to withstand heavy use and the fiction materials like Kevlar and ceramic offer increased power holding.
The clutch disc is relined with a Steel Backed (TM) friction surface for improved thermal dissipation with the better bite. This directly leads to longer life.
NEW Pressure
plate reinforcement straps and rivets - This area has always been a fragile
point on a stock clutch. Clutchmasters has used a reinforced pressure
plate with 3 bands instead of the stock 2. Now, all VAC / Clutchmasters
kits employ a stack of FOUR heavy-duty straps, held with up rated rivets. These added strength parts will endure extended extreme use.

FX100 Stage 1- Organic Steel Back Heavy Duty Street System
The Stage 1 uses the Power Plus
pressure plate with a custom heavy-duty steel back organic friction
disc for 70% more holding capacity over a stock clutch assembly. It
is specifically designed for extended wear and additional clamping
force needed for heavy-duty street use, autocross, and fairly stock
street cars participating in open track/driving schools. It feels
very much like a stock clutch, with only slightly increased pedal
pressure. Expect a bit longer life than stock, and normal clutch
feel during engagement and disengagement for a very smooth
operation.

FX200 Stage 2 - Kevlar Steel Back System
The Stage 2 uses the Power Plus
pressure plate and a steel backed Kevlar disc for 70% more holding
capacity over a stock clutch assembly. This clutch is designed for
the medium-modified street car or one that regularly autocrosses
/sees driving school/track days. The Stage 2 offers similar torque
holding capacity to the Stage 1, however, it's life expectancy is
increased 2-3 times with the Kevlar disc. The Kevlar friction
material is non-abrasive and doesn't score the mating surfaces. It
features only slightly increased pedal pressure, significantly
longer life than stock, and normal clutch feel during engagement and
disengagement for the smoothest operation of any stage we offer. The
downside to this clutch is it must be broken in properly. An
improper break-in of a Kevlar clutch will great reduce longevity and
clutch hold.

FX300 Stage 3 - Segmented Kevlar Steel Back System
The Stage 3 uses the Power Plus pressure plate with a steel
back segmented Kevlar disc for 110% more holding capacity over a
stock clutch assembly. This clutch is designed for the highly tuned
street cars seeing numerous autocrosses and driving school/track
days per year. The Stage 3 features slightly increased pedal
pressure, long life disc, and positive engagement and will hold a
great deal more power than a standard clutch.
Engagement is slightly more firm than the Stage 2. The
downside to a Kevlar clutch is it must be broken in properly.
An improper break in of a Kevlar clutch will great reduce longevity
and clutch hold.

FX400 Stage 4 - Sprung Ceramic 6 & 4 Puck System
The Stage 4 uses the Power Plus
pressure plate with a custom, extremely durable, ceramic disc for
170% more holding capacity over a stock clutch assembly. This is a
great hard street use, forced induction type clutch with a 6-puck
configuration. The 4-puck being the more aggressive setup, make
a ideal choice for devoted track clutch
for drivers who are rulebook limited to stock diameter clutch kit.The
disc incorporates a solid hub to work in conjunction with the stock
dual mass flywheel design for smooth engagement*, or can be used
with a single mass but will make some rattle noise at idle. This
disc is designed for long life, outstanding holding capacity, and
rapid heat dissipation. Please note: Due to the solid (no Marcel)
friction rivet design, the Stage 4 disc engages quickly than stages
1-3 (4-puck engages even harder) and can cause increased wear on the
drivetrain if it sees abusive use. With a bit of a learning curve, a
6-puck can be street driven without issue.
These puck configurations may chatter slightly when engaging first
and reverse. To help alleviate this problem, ClutchMasters only use
premium ceramic friction material.
Ceramic breaks in easy, especially compared to Kevlar making it
a great choice for the devoted track car
that does not have the ability for an extended break in period.

If a
ClutchMaster clutch kit is planned to be installed in conjunction with a used
flywheel the flywheel MUST be professionally resurfaced beforehand. Failure to
resurface a used flywheel will void warranty. Please contact us for further
information concerning flywheel resurfacing.
On Flywheels:
Applications having a stock single mass flywheel will have a sprung hub disc. If
your car came stock with a dual mass flywheel but you plan to use an aftermarket
single mass unit, please order the clutch and flywheel together as a package.
